Antonio Barahona

Antonio Barahona (Sevilla, 1984) entered the College of Fine Arts Santa Isabel de Hungría in 2003 in Seville. In 2006, he received the Erasmus Drawing Grant from the Pietro Vanucci Art Foundation in Perugia, Italy. He graduated in 2008 in the specialty of Painting from the University of Seville.

 

With the intention of continuing his training and gaining experience, he participated in the Francisco de Goya Caja de Ávila in 2010, taught by Antonio López García. That same year he was selected by the Antonio Gala´s Foundation to be part of the ninth promotion and there Antonio develops his Andalusian customs project; a vindication of the other side of Andalusian culture through painting. After his stage at the Antonio Gala´s Foundation, he continues to attend painting workshops and courses taught by international masters such as Golucho, Antonio López and Andrés García Ibañez.

 

In 2014, he received a grant from the Andalusian Government to develop his project “The past in the present. Constructions of the contemporary landscape from the sublime” curated by Mariana Hormaechea. This has been a turning point in his motivation and in his professional practice.

 

His painting has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades, including the Paul Ricard Award (2019), José Arpa Award (2019), Zabaleta Award (2016), 1st Prize in the XXV Ciudad de Álora International Painting Contest (2014), the selection in the BP Portrait Award, from the National Portrait Gallery of London (2012), the 2nd Axa Burgos Cathedral Painting Prize (2011) or the 1st Ateneo de Sevilla National Painting Award (2010) among many others.

 

He has participated in different group and individual exhibitions, most recents being “El asombro de los cotidiano”, SharonArt (León, 2019) “1929, Paisismo Contemporáneo” Individual exhibition in Lugadero (Seville 2014) and “Verdes Ramas” Individual exhibition in ElQuatre Art Gallery (Barcelona, 2014).

 

Antonio Barahona currently lives and works in Sevilla, Spain.
